In a typical and interesting corridor of Cartagena, located on Baloco del Centro street, is one of the oldest and most recognized restaurants in the city. La Vitrola Bistro Bar, a name that has been used for more than 25 years since it was the Cartagena after party, is a gathering place that has been operating as a bar-restaurant since the years in which the bahareque, palm and board houses were replaced by large masonry mansions, such as this house today, which has a Cuban-style decoration, but above all conserves its colonial part.
La Vitrola is the set of little things where you arrive and find a touch of pleasant music to accompany a good dinner.
Upon entering, one finds an old piano, adorned with the vitrola, which is a musical instrument that played records by winding it up. Whoever enters is delighted to see everything inside this room: dark green ceiling fans from antiquity, trunks where food, dessert and wine menus are kept. In one corner is the orchestra and there are three rooms or squares as they are called. Plaza one, which is the bar plaza, plaza two for wines and another that functions as a waiting room.
"Undoubtedly, Plaza One is the most requested, because it has a view of a narrow wall corridor, which connects with Santander Avenue and the beach in the background",
In this luxurious restaurant, there are still remains of antiques, belonging to the history of Cartagena, such as its lamps, trunks and paintings that take us back to remote moments of the city. The walls still retain the rustic texture, the floor is not shiny tile but there are no large tables or large tablecloths, but there is the luxury of history, with the heritage of an old house, in one of the most important streets of the walled Cartagena.
Undoubtedly one of the best restaurants you can visit in Cartagena with a colonial, cozy and charming atmosphere.
