The little town where these beaches are located owes its name to the Bocachica Canal, so called because of its narrowness and since it was the only and obligatory step to access the Bay of Cartagena, due to the fact that the Boca Grande Canal, located on the other side of Tierrabomba Island, was closed by a breakwater built during the Colony.
Bocachica is accessible by water in a 45-minute trip. There are changing rooms, fresh water showers, a bar and a restaurant. It has flat and crystalline beaches.
