The aquarium was founded in 1966 by Captain Francisco Ospina Navia who was engaged in commercial shark fishing. He began to build the pools in the sea and gradually gain species for the aquarium
As the first Aquarium in South America, with more than 45 years of experience dedicated to the conservation of the different marine species in danger of extinction, our business culture is oriented towards the unrestricted commitment to Environmental and Social Responsibility, a factor that makes Our services fully cover the current and future needs of the Samaria, Colombian and foreign society, through continuous improvement, promoting Tourist, Cultural, Historical and Scientific development.
Currently, the Aquarium is part of the Latin American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums (ALPZA), the Colombian Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums (ACOPAZOA), the International Association of Mammal Trainers (IMATA) and the National Network of Museums.
