HOTEL TAMACÁ is named in honor of the ravine of the same name that meanders from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, crosses the Gaira district and flows into the Rodadero Bay, a few meters south of the hotel facilities. The privileged location of the hotel corresponds to an ancestral worship site used by the Gaira Indians, who from the neighboring village of the same name, came on a pilgrimage to the beach along the royal road parallel to the Tamacá creek to celebrate on very special occasions.
The Tamacá hotel as in the immemorial times of our history, is a place of worship of nature where you can breathe an atmosphere of peace and spiritual calm.
Since its inauguration and in the first years, it was operated directly by the Department of Magdalena. In 1970, seeking the internationalization of the destination, the Government sold its rights to TAMACÁ HOTEL COMPANY SA INC., a company with American capital. In May 1977, the Hotel TAMACÁ is acquired by Hoteles de Colombia Ltda., a company with national capital.
On March 17, 1978, the HOTEL TAMACÁ is acquired by the company OLARTE MORALES E HIJOS LIMITADA, today TENERIFE SA, which belongs to Colombian investors linked to the region. In 1980, the Hotel underwent an expansion with a new floor (the sixth), thus leaving twelve new rooms distributed as follows: two suites, two Junior suites and eight standard rooms, passing its offer to eighty-two rooms, the which have a beautiful view of the sea, social areas and gardens, which make the TAMACÁ BEACH RESORT an ideal place to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean sunsets.
This Company directly operated the property until 1992, when it decided to lease it to the Decameron hotel chain, who managed it until mid-1998, when it returned to its owners. During the second half of this year, the property undergoes extensive remodeling in its social areas and corporate image change, which requires significant investments on the part of TENERIFE SA The TAMACÁ BEACH RESORT opens its doors again to national and international tourism in December 1998.
Since then, the Hotel Tamacá has been leading the tourist industry in Rodadero, characterized by extensive and unparalleled facilities, offering a whole different world to enjoy business or pleasure trips.
