Despite this "impregnable" fortress character, the castle was invaded on one occasion, when in 1697 the Baron de Pointis, commanding soldiers and buccaneers, took and sacked the city.
In the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas, the main square, the kitchen, the cistern, the underground galleries, the gunpowder stores and the artillery emplacements stand out.
He was a faithful defender of the city that, however, once fell into the hands of the Baron de Pointis.
