The Virgilio Barco Public Library is one of the four major libraries of the Capital Network of Public Libraries of Bogotá - BibloRed of the Mayor's Office of Bogotá and the Secretariat of Education of the Capital District.
In addition, it has pleasant spaces, combined with a varied and innovative programming, which awakens in children, youth and adults a particular interest in reading, writing and artistic manifestations.
The library opened its doors to the community on December 20, 2001, and since then it has become a center for social and cultural development. It is located in a central area of the city surrounded by parks and sports and recreational complexes, in which it serves the inhabitants of the towns of Teusaquillo, Chapinero, Engativá, Barrios Unidos, Los Mártires and Puente Aranda.
The design reveals the metal structure also present on the roof and the façade is made up of brick surfaces, glass and shutters that diffuse natural light.
